Graz turns visitors into time-travellers. As a World Cultural Heritage site it takes them back through distant centuries of the past in a whirlwind tour of the Renaissance, Gothic and Baroque periods. Graz also captures the moment, the spirit of modern life. In 2003 Graz was the Cultural Capital of Europe. The nomination brought may positive changes and left unmistakable and spectacular marks in the cultural and architectural face of the city such as the Kunsthaus called the "friendly alien" or the Island in the River Mur.

Kunsthaus Graz

Like a huge bluish bubble the landmark of new Graz is hovering above the right bank of the river Mur. Since October 2003, Kunsthaus - affectionately called "a friendly alien" by its creators, Peter Cook and Colin Fournier - has attracted people with spectacular architecture and changing exhibitions of contemporary art. Moreover, Kunsthaus is a symbol of the harmonious co-existence of old and new in Graz. After all, it is growing out of the “Eisernes Haus” which in 1848 caused quite a stir as one of the first cast-iron buildings on the Continent.

Riegersburg Zotter

Riegersburg and Zotter chocolate fabrication

Riegersburg Castle impressively stands in solitary splendour on the remains of
a 482m high volcanic mountain. Referred to by the Turks at the time as „the mightiest fortress of Christianity“, the imposing appearance of the castle still commands our respect.

After a cold snack of home made Styrian delicacies we will visit the nearby Zotter Chocolate Manufacture. Immerse yourself in the world of chocolate. The guided tasting tour around the Zotter world of chocolate provides valuable information on chocolate as well as numerous creatively arranged titbit stations. They wander around the transparent Chocolate Factory along paths of glass and accompany the transformation of the cocoa bean into chocolate.

White Horses Red Wine

White Horses – Red Wine

Off we go over the hills to the home of the famous white horses of the Spanish Riding School — the Lipizzaner stud farm in Western Styria! This trip is not only for horse enthusiasts, though. In the nearby village Bärnbach, the St. Barbara church has been redecorated by famous Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser in his unmistakable imaginative way.

A glass of the unique Schilcher wine, that glows with the colour of onion skin is a must when visiting this part of Styria.

South Styrian Wine Route

Here, beneath poplars and chestnut trees, where the Klapotetz beats time, life revolves around wine. An internationally more and more popular variety of local white wine reach the peak of maturity amidst the gentle hills of southern Styria. Wine-tasting and a cellar tour of the 300 year-old Episcopal Seggau Castle will help you acquire a taste for it. A hearty snack of assorted homemade Styrian delicacies amidst the vineyards is
certainly considered the highlight of this tour.
